Favorite Athletic Achievement: NCAA Woman of the Year in 2009. No other award looks at the holistic success of an athlete: Academics, Athletics, Leadership and Community Service. To be chosen out of all D1, D2, and D3 female athletes across all sports, was a huge honor and one I hold near to my heart!
Personal Achievement: Personally, my family is my greatest personal achievement! I have a great career and I love my life, but my husband and kids are the sure foundation which everything is built upon! Without them, I will never achieve my highest potential.
Why I am Inspired to be a RISE Mentor: My motivation to be a RISE mentor comes from my belief that sport is what we do NOT who we are! I struggle when I see many athletes forget the love for the game and cloud their successes with everyone else’s expectations except their own. I hope to offer a space for athletes to unpack their thoughts and be heard without expectation or judgement. I want athletes to know that if we take time to develop the core of the person, then the success in sports and school will come as a byproduct.
What would I tell my 13-year-old self: Stop thinking so much! Embrace who you are and take time to pause and enjoy the moment. You don’t have to have everything perfect now, so put on a smile and do a belly flop in the pool!
Favorite way to focus: I am a believer, and my faith is a huge part of who I am and how I see the world. I focus my remembering my true identity as a daughter of God and I have a divine potential that trumps everything else.
Best way to rest/recover: My favorite recovery is nature! I love hikes and bike rides!
Fun Fact: Fun fact is that I LOVE extreme water sports! I could spend all day at the lake wakeboarding, water skiing, tubing and more! Bring on the speed and wipeouts!
What I do now: I work in college athletics in life skills and player development. I love helping athletes see themselves for more than the wins and losses!
My Favorite Mentoring Moment: My favorite mentoring moment can’t be just one conversation/moment. However, I love listening to the inner strength of the amazing individuals who come through the RISE program! When we have the goal setting meeting, it is all about dreaming big and seeing the capacity of life! This is my favorite part, and then we can have fun making those dreams become reality!
